Because broken doesn't mean worthless.
I am looking for others who are interested in learning and developing kintsugi, particularly in San Diego. If you would like to talk about kintsugi, please fell free to contact me!
A deliberate process.
A deliberate process.
The traditional kintsugi process operates at multiple time scales. Applying the lacquer must be done quickly, in a matter of minutes, before the lacquer hardens so much as to become unworkable. The piece must then be left to cure for days before the next step can be undertaken. The entire process yields a completed work in about two weeks. More modern adhesives such as epoxy are much faster, however I find the practice to be enjoyable, and the history of the technique accentuates the history of the piece being repaired.
